Welcome Message from the COMELEC Webmaster
A CONTINUING WORK IN PROGRESS
On this day, 17 July 2012, after exactly eleven years and two months (and seven major design modifications) since its presence in the information highway, the official COMELEC Website has finally built interactivity into its design. As a result of this, the Website is now able to provide RSS feeds on its latest updates. We have also made it possible for website information to be readily shared via social networking sites, such as Facebook, Twitter, Google+, and Tumbler.
We are also proud to say that the new COMELEC Website is now, officially, a PWD-Friendly Website. This is a certification that has just been granted to us by the National Council on Disability Affairs (NCDA), through its online advocacy group, the Philippine Web Accessibility Group (PWAG).
With this, we continue our work in progress as we strive to provide better election-related public information service via the COMELEC Website. Expect other, better, enhancements from us in the coming days.
HISTORICAL BACKGROUND

A website for the COMELEC was first made available in 1998, under the leadership of former Chairman Bernardo P. Pardo, as an assistance from certain non-government organizations, for purposes of disseminating information pertaining to the 1998 national and synchronized elections. However, since maintenance of this site was not with COMELEC itself, it soon went out of the air, so to speak. |
|
In 2001, the COMELEC first established its independent presence on the information highway, answering the call for a more accessible venue for disseminating official canvassing results by the National Board of Canvassers for the May 14, 2001 senatorial and party-list elections. This happened under the leadership of former Chairman Alfredo L. Benipayo. |

Since then, the COMELEC website has undergone a couple of "e-facelifts" with the primary objective of coming up with a more eye-catching website, that is easy to navigate, with more useful and updated information, that would encourage its audience to learn more about the Philippine electoral process... and to keep coming back for more! |
