Date of Publication: 28 January 2009
Interested in checking out how voters' registration is being conducted in your district, city or municipality? Visit the Commission on Elections Education and Information Department's (COMELEC-EID) blogsite: http://bagongbotante.ph/eidblog/ to know more.
This was announced today by COMELEC spokesman and EID Director James Jimenez, adding that this aims to provide would-be voters a feel of the registration process in a particular area in the National Capital Region (NCR).
"We want to educate the youth on how registration is being conducted in the NCR and to encourage the broadest number of them to register as voters," said Jimenez.
Jimenez further said that they will be featuring photos and videos of registrants and election officials in the bagongbotante blog. Among those posted on the blog, Jimenez relates, is a video of popular actor Alfred Vargas who exhorted the youth to come out and register. The blog also features updates and announcements on the voters' registration process.
The COMELEC has adopted the use of blogging to reach out to the youth. Data from the Philippine Citizen Journalism Seminar said that there are about 24 million Filipinos who use the internet and that 90.3 % of Filipino internet users read blogs. ###
