2007 BARANGAY AND SANGGUNIANG KABATAAN ELECTIONS

DBM Earmarks P255M for the PNP, P100M for the AFP for the Polls

Acting Commission on Elections Chairman Resurreccion Z. Borra said today that the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) has earmarked P255,151,000.00 for the Philippine National Police (PNP) and P100,000.000.00 for the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) for the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections on October 29, 2007.

The DBM said in its Special Allotment Release Order (SARO) issued to both agencies today, the funds would cover the budgetary requirements of the PNP and the AFP on Monday's elections.

"Notwithstanding this issuance, disbursement/expenditures of funds shall be subject to the provisions embodied in the Omnibus Election Code and other pertinent laws, rules and regulations" DBM Secretary Rolando Andaya Jr. said.

He furthered that the actual utilization/disbursements out of the cash allocation shall be subject to the existing budgeting, accounting and auditing rules and regulations.

Earlier, Acting COMELEC Chair Borra has also announced the release of more than P400 million pesos to be used as transportation allowance for teachers who will serve election day duties.
