The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) clarified today that the official campaign period for the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections will end on midnight of October 27, 2007, Saturday.

The COMELEC issued this clarification to put an end to the mounting confusion as to the date of the last day of the Barangay and SK campaign period.

"COMELEC Resolution 8264 which outlined the calendar of activities and certain prohibited acts in connection with the Barangay and SK elections is loud and clear. The official campaign period will run from October 19 until midnight of October 27, 2007" said COMELEC spokesman Dir. James Jimenez.

He said candidates can proceed with their scheduled political caucuses and meetings, Barangay assembly and distribution of lawful campaign paraphernalia on Saturday, the last day of the campaign period.
