COMELEC Press Releases

2007 SYNCHRONIZED NATIONAL AND LOCAL ELECTIONS

Local Absentee Voting

Date: 18 January 2007

For 2007 national and Local Elections, casting of votes is not only confined to a polling place where a voter is registered. With the promulgation of COMELEC Resolution No. 7797 governing local absentee voting on January 2007, all government officials and employees, including members of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, and the Philippine National Police, who are duly registered voters and who will be reassigned to perform election-related duties in a place other than their place of registration can vote for senatorial candidates and party-list participants.

Those who wish to avail of local absentee voting should make a sworn written request addressed to Commissioner Florentino A. Tuason, Jr., Chairman of the Committee on Local Absentee Voting (CLAV). Such request should be filed by the head of office/unit, supervisor or commander and accompanied by a subscribed list containing names of voters who intend to vote in absentia, not later than March 14, 2007.

To attain its broadest dissemination and implementation nationwide, CLAV and the COMELEC Education and Information Department are now distributing copies of Resolution No. 7797, as well as forms for request and for the list of registered voters who will avail of local absentee voting, to different government agencies, or instrumentalities deputized by the COMELEC for the 2007 elections and all COMELEC field offices. Resolution No. 7797 and the required forms are available for download at this website.
